Do you ever wonder about celebrity lives? Specifically, what do celebrities eat? Do celebrities go to potlucks? I have always assumed celebrities have personal chefs and assistant’s that make sure they have the food they need on hand. But, I was surprised to learn that Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher cook at home pretty much all day. It’s refreshing to know that even major celebrities are just regular people like you and me. They even have their own best potluck dishes.
It turns out, Oprah Winfrey has her own deviled egg recipe. Betty White is famous for her chicken wings. And Jennifer Aniston has an amazing salad she ate on the set of Friends, every day! I am still curious to know whether these recipes were truly their own or just something from their magazines or websites. But alas, we may never know. Still worth a shot to try them out!
I’m trying out Oprah’s deviled eggs, Betty White’s chicken wings, and Jennifer Aniston’s salad to see if they are what they are hyped up to be. Although Oprah might not attend actually potluck dinners, I like to imagine she does. Let’s get cooking and explore what Oprah might bring to a potluck.
Oprah’s Deviled Eggs
I’m so happy that egg prices have been going down, making these super inexpensive and a great last-minute dish for a potluck. Overall, deviled eggs have to be one of the all time best potluck dishes. You can make them last minute, and I almost always have eggs in my fridge. If I don’t know what to make, it will likely be deviled eggs!
To start, you’ll need to hard-boil a dozen eggs. I prefer to use a steamer and steam them for about 14 minutes, then put them in an ice bath. Slice the eggs in half and put all the yolks into a bowl. I like to use my 4 cup Pyrex measuring cup for this because it’s the perfect size. To the egg yolks, add about three tablespoons of mayonnaise (or more for a creamier texture), two tablespoons of mustard (yellow or Dijon), a tablespoon of sweet pickle relish (or chopped sweet pickles), salt and pepper to taste, and a dash of horseradish (optional). If you like a bit of spice, you can add Tabasco sauce and a dash of lemon juice, as Oprah’s original recipe suggests.
To fill the eggs, use a small Ziploc bag with a hole cut in one corner, or simply use your finger to spoon in the filling. Top with parsley and paprika (if you like). I didn’t use paprika because I was sharing these with my mom and she has an allergy to cayenne pepper. Surprisingly, can sometimes be in the spice mix. These deviled eggs are one of the best potluck dishes and were a hit with my family. We especially loved the unique flavor that the horseradish added.

The Jennifer Aniston Salad
If you’re a fan of the popular TV show Friends, you might be familiar with the “Rachel” salad, also known as the Jennifer Aniston salad. It’s rumored to be the salad that Rachel, played by Jennifer Aniston, ate on the set of the show every day for lunch. Whether that’s true or not, we’ll never know, but it’s worth giving it a try.
The salad is easy to make and allows you to make it your own by adding more or less of the ingredients you prefer. This salad is super pantry friendly and versatile. The recipe calls for red onion, bulgur wheat, cucumber, parsley, mint, pistachios, chickpeas, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, and feta cheese. It helps to have fresh herbs on hand using a aero garden but if you don’t have on, store bought or dried spices will do. I even think, if you don’t have any pistachios, any chopped nut would be a good replacement.
The Jennifer Aniston salad is perfect for a light lunch or as a side dish. You can also bring it to a potluck or serve it with a cheeseburger for a more substantial meal. You can get the full recipe here!
Betty White’s Chicken Wings
Who doesn’t love Betty White? Her chicken wings recipe is just as delightful as she was but maybe not as funny. You’ll want to plan to make these ahead of time. The recipe isn’t complicated but does require marinading the wings for a few hours and up to an hour and a half in the oven. But don’t worry, it’s completely worth it. The wings are sweet and tangy and fall off the bone delicious. You can get the full recipe here!
