- 1 pound of ground beef (or your choice of meat)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 medium cloves of garlic, finely minced
- 1 cup of beef broth (or 1 cup of warm water with 1 beef bouillon cube)
- 2 teaspoons of cornstarch
- Mixed vegetables (optional, e.g., carrots, peas)
- 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- Seasonings (e.g., Rosemary, Sage, Salt, Pepper)
- 1/2 cup of sour cream
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter
Instructions
-
Steam or boil sweet potatoes until soft, then remove the skins and mash them with sour cream and melted butter. Set aside.
-
In a pan, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until fully cooked and no longer pink.
-
Add chopped onions and cook for about six minutes until they soften.
-
Optionally, add mixed vegetables, such as carrots and peas, to the mixture.
-
Stir in minced garlic, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and your choice of seasonings. Cook for about a minute.
-
Create a cornstarch slurry by mixing cornstarch with warm water. Add the slurry to the mixture to thicken it. Stir well.
-
Once the mixture thickens (about two to three minutes), remove it from the heat.

In a 9×13-inch baking dish, layer the ground beef mixture at the bottom.
-
Top the beef mixture with the mashed sweet potatoes, spreading them evenly.
-
Bake the dish at 425°F (220°C) for about 20 minutes or until the top is lightly golden and the filling is bubbling.
