Looking for a show-stopping appetizer that looks fancy but is actually simple and budget-friendly? My Smoked Salmon Appetizer Flower is perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother’s Day brunch, or any special occasion. This no-cook appetizer is elegant, festive, and surprisingly affordable because I use smoked salmon trim and the most cost-effective black caviar option: Black lumpfish.

Why You’ll Love This Smoked Salmon Flower

  • No cooking required: Perfect for busy holiday prep or brunch.
  • Elegant presentation: Looks like a caterer made it, but it’s easy to do at home.
  • Budget-friendly: Uses smoked salmon trim and affordable black lumpfish roe.
  • Customizable: Add capers, red onion, or scallions for extra flavor and color.

Ingredients

  • Room temperature cream cheese about 4oz
  • Smoked salmon trim (about 2–3 oz)
  • Black lumpfish roe (approx. ½ tsp per “petal”) – 1/2 a jar
  • Capers (for the center)
  • Sliced red onion or scallions
  • Sliced baguette or Parisian loaf bread, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the plate: Use a round serving plate. With a small wooden knife or spoon, start at the edge of the plate. Using the back of the spoon or knife, smear a line of cream cheese, about a tablespoon size.
  2. Create the flower petals: Continue smearing cream cheese in adjacent lines around the outside of the plate, forming the first row of petals. Add a second row just inside the first and continue until your flower shape is complete, leaving the center empty.
  3. Add smoked salmon and lumpfish roe:
    • On every other petal, place a small piece of smoked salmon trim.
    • On the alternate petals, place about ½ teaspoon of black lumpfish roe.
  4. Finish the center and garnish:
    • Fill the center of the flower with capers.
    • Sprinkle sliced red onion or scallions on top for extra color and flavor.
  5. Serve: Pair with a spreadable knife and sliced baguette or Parisian loaf bread.

Tips & Tricks

  • Room temperature cream cheese: Makes smearing easier and smoother.
  • Affordable ingredients: Smoked salmon trim and black lumpfish roe give a luxurious look without overspending.
  • Visual appeal: The flower shape adds elegance to any table without extra effort.
  • Make ahead: This appetizer can be assembled a few hours in advance; just cover with plastic wrap until serving.

This Smoked Salmon Appetizer Flower is ideal for:

  • Thanksgiving & Christmas – adds elegance without complicated prep.
  • Mother’s Day brunch – impressive, no-cook treat.
