This London broil on the grill recipe is a family recipe that has been made 100’s of times. This inexpensive steak is requested again and again creating family memories each time.
This recipe evokes memories of my childhood. My parents would always marinade the London broil on Friday to eat on Saturday night. Each Saturday, weather dependent, we’d get up early and head to the beach with a packed lunch. We lived about 45 minutes from the NH coast. After an afternoon of playing in the waves, looking for crabs, and building sand castles, we’d head home. We’d all shower (a shower after the beach is the best shower, in my opinion) and my parents would water the garden and start dinner.
Why London Broil?
My parents chose London broil because, it felt like a treat, but was very inexpensive. You can see in my youtube video, even today, I was able to purchase the entire steak for less than $5. The marinade itself is super pantry friendly and it takes less than 10 minutes on the grill. When I did ask my parents for the recipe to re-create for my family, it was, as expected, very simple.
The Recipe
I had to text my mom to get the full recipe and have saved it ever since. She was able to send in just one text box:
London Broil Marinade:
3/4 cup oil
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
2 cloves garlic minced
1 tsp ground ginger
salt and pepper
Marinate 1-2 lbs London broil in ziplock bag. Turn bag occasionally. Marinate for up to 24 hours. Grill to your liking and slice on an angle.
How To Savor The Summertime Feeling
There are a few sides and even music that pairs really well with London broil on the grill. For the sides, my mom’s tomato salad is an absolute must, along with her dill roasted potatoes, and a Parisian loaf of bread. As for music, try the Sleepless in Seattle Soundtrack, which we played on tape but I now still play on Spotify.
