Looking for a tasty and satisfying sandwich for your next meal or gathering? These Italian sliders are loaded with flavor and perfect for any occasion! Featuring homemade sourdough slider rolls, or store-bought if you’re short on time, these sliders are filled with a savory mix of organic meats, fresh veggies, and creamy avocado mayo. They make for a great appetizer, lunch, or even a fun dinner option. Whether you’re feeding a crowd or enjoying a cozy meal at home, these sliders are sure to be a hit!

Why I designed this extra healthy recipe:

In recent years, there has been increasing concern about the health risks associated with processed meats, particularly those that contain sodium nitrates and other preservatives, which have been linked to higher cancer risks and other health issues. With this in mind, I wanted to create a healthier version of the beloved Italian sandwich that still delivers all the flavor without the harmful additives. Instead of relying on ultra-processed deli meats, I used Applegate nitrate-free salami, grass-fed pepperoni, and organic ham, which are free from the chemicals and preservatives typically found in store-bought meats. I even took it a step further by making my own homemade sourdough rolls using organic ingredients, so you can enjoy a delicious sandwich with much cleaner, better-for-you ingredients. This way, you can indulge in an Italian classic while keeping things as healthy as possible!

Ingredients:

  • Slider rolls (preferably homemade sourdough, sliced in half)
  • 1 small head of organic romaine lettuce
  • 1 package Applegate organic ham
  • 1/2 package Applegate nitrate-free salami
  • 1/2 package Applegate grass-fed pepperoni
  • 2 tablespoons mild banana peppers
  • 1 Grillo pickle (or your favorite brand)
  • 1/4 of a red onion, finely sliced
  • 4 slices grass-fed cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons avocado mayo
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons Primal Kitchen Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Salad Base:
Lay the organic romaine lettuce on a cutting board and spread it out flat. Using a sharp knife, chop the lettuce into small, bite-sized pieces, making sure it’s evenly cut.
  2. Chop the Meats and Veggies:
Next, take your Applegate organic ham, nitrate-free salami, and grass-fed pepperoni and chop them finely into small pieces. Add these to the chopped lettuce on the cutting board. Then, finely chop the banana peppers, Grillo pickle, and red onion and add them to the mix.
  3. Add the Cheese and Seasonings:
Tear the grass-fed cheddar cheese into small pieces and add it to the mixture. Then, add the avocado mayo, Italian seasoning, Primal Kitchen Italian seasoning, and red wine vinegar. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Mix Everything Together:
Thoroughly mix all the ingredients together on the cutting board or in a large bowl until everything is well combined and evenly distributed.
  5. Assemble the Sliders:
Open your sourdough slider rolls and fill each one with the chopped mixture, ensuring that the ingredients are evenly packed into each roll. Once filled, cut the sandwiches into 12 equal portions.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
Serve immediately while the rolls are fresh, or wrap and store in the fridge for later. These Italian sliders are perfect for a fun dinner, party appetizer, or packed lunch!

Why You’ll Love These Italian Sliders:

  • Flavor-packed: The combination of organic meats, fresh veggies, and creamy avocado mayo is a winning flavor combo that will have everyone coming back for more.
  • Healthy and Clean Ingredients: With Applegate organic ham, nitrate-free salami, and grass-fed pepperoni, you’re getting high-quality ingredients that taste better and are better for you.
  • Perfect for Any Occasion: These Italian sliders are perfect for parties, meal prep, or as a fun lunch idea. Plus, they’re easy to make and customizable to suit your tastes.
  • Homemade Sourdough Rolls: If you’ve got the time, make your own sourdough slider rolls for a truly delicious homemade experience. You can also use store-bought if you’re in a rush!

Best Way to Thank a Food Blogger: Leave a Review!

If you’ve enjoyed making and eating these Italian sliders, the best way to thank me as a food blogger is by leaving a review! Your feedback helps me grow and continue creating more delicious, healthy recipes. Whether you love the recipe, made some modifications, or have tips for others, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Plus, your review helps others find great recipes to try as well. So if you liked what you made, take a minute to share your experience—it really means a lot!

Use Mild Banana Peppers for the Perfect Kick

If you’re making these Italian sliders for a crowd, be mindful of the heat level in your ingredients. While some may enjoy spicy banana peppers, others might prefer a milder option. Using mild banana peppers ensures that everyone can enjoy the tangy, vinegary flavor without overwhelming the taste buds. The mild peppers pair perfectly with the richness of the meats and cheese, adding just the right amount of zest.

Chopped Italian Sliders: A Perfect Blend of Texture and Flavor

To get the perfect texture in each bite, chopping all the ingredients finely is essential. This method makes the filling easier to handle and ensures that every bite of your Italian sliders is a delightful mix of ham, salami, pepperoni, cheese, and veggies. When everything is chopped to a uniform size, it also helps the ingredients stick together better, making the sliders less messy to eat.

Baking Dish for Italian Sliders: A Convenient Option

If you’re serving a larger crowd or preparing a make-ahead meal, consider assembling these Italian sliders in a baking dish. Arrange the sliders in a 9×13-inch baking dish, brush the tops with a bit of avocado mayo or butter, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes. This gives the sliders a golden, crisp top while keeping the inside soft and gooey. It’s an excellent option for game day or family gatherings where you want to serve up a crowd-pleasing dish that’s both delicious and easy to serve.

Hawaiian Rolls as an Alternative

While sourdough rolls are fantastic, you can also use Hawaiian rolls for these sliders if you’re craving a slightly sweeter flavor. The light, soft texture of Hawaiian rolls complements the savory filling, creating a sweet and savory contrast that’s hard to resist. These rolls are especially popular for sliders at parties, and the sweet taste adds an extra layer of flavor to your Italian sandwich.

Provolone Cheese: The Perfect Melty Addition

While grass-fed cheddar cheese is a great option, provolone cheese adds a delightful meltiness and extra depth of flavor to these Italian sliders. It’s mild, creamy, and perfectly complements the savory Italian meats like salami and pepperoni. If you prefer a stronger cheese, opt for aged provolone—it adds a more robust, tangy bite that pairs beautifully with the richness of the meats and pickles.

Salami and Pepperoni: The Heart of Italian Sliders

The salami and pepperoni used in these Italian sliders are what make them truly special. Both meats bring a classic Italian flavor that is rich, slightly spicy, and incredibly satisfying. Nitrate-free salami ensures that you’re enjoying a cleaner, healthier version of these flavorful deli meats, while the grass-fed pepperoni adds a smokiness and richness that brings everything together. This combination of meats creates a bold flavor profile that will have everyone reaching for more sliders!

Game Day Sliders: Perfect for Parties and Gatherings

These Italian sliders are the ultimate game day snack. Whether you’re watching the big game, hosting a movie night, or throwing a party, these sliders will definitely be the star of the show. They’re easy to make in large batches and can be assembled ahead of time, so you can focus on the fun part—eating and enjoying time with friends and family!

Tsp Italian Seasoning for the Perfect Herb Blend

To really bring out the Italian flavors in these sliders, don’t forget the Italian seasoning! A teaspoon of Italian seasoning adds the perfect blend of herbs—like basil, oregano, and thyme—that complements the meats, cheese, and veggies. For an extra flavor boost, try Primal Kitchen Italian seasoning for an added layer of flavor with high-quality ingredients.

These Italian sliders are a fantastic combination of savory meats, fresh veggies, and creamy mayo all packed into a perfectly soft slider roll. Whether you make them with sourdough rolls or Hawaiian rolls, they’ll quickly become a family favorite. Perfect for game day, lunch, or any casual get-together, these sliders will impress your guests and leave everyone satisfied!
