I love grabbing a tube of crescent rolls and making them in to something awesome! These BBQ Chicken bites end up being super pantry friendly too, using canned chicken and canned crescent rolls! Doesn’t get much better!
This is a great way to use that can of chicken you’ve been afraid to crack, in the pantry!
Or maybe you’re a canned chicken lover and you’re just looking for new recipes, you will love these!
When to this Make These BBQ Chicken Bites
This BBQ Chicken bites are great for a snack, appetizer, lunch, or dinner! I especially love to make these around the holidays but they are a great summer treat too!
If I were making a spread for friends, I might choose to make these along side Betty White’s Chicken Wings and Oprah’s Deviled Eggs.
How to Make Ingredient Swaps
I always say, use what you have on hand! I hate the idea of going out to buy expensive ingredients to make an exact recipe. It’s really not necessary and the ingredients can really add up. I recommend some basic swaps that can really cut down costs and make this your own.
Canned or Fresh Chicken:
If you love canned chicken already and you have a can, this these BBQ chicken bites are for you! If you are afraid of canned chicken, I recommend giving the chicken a rinse once you drain it. This will get rid of some of the “canned” flavor.
If you have fresh leftover or cooked chicken, by all means add it to these bites instead of canned! It’ll be great. And if you really can’t do the canned chicken and you have to buy some chicken for these BBQ Chicken Bites that’s totally fine too! (But I swear, you’d never know!)
CHEESE SWAPS:
I rarely have the actual cheese required to make a recipe. I like to buy what’s on sale to save money and hate buying a specific cheese just for one recipe. In the past, I’ve used sliced cheese and shred it just to make shredded cheese and it turned out great. This is just another example of using what you have on hand.
Ingredients to Make These BBQ Chicken Bites

- 1 12.5 oz drained can of chicken
- 1/4 cup bbq sauce
- A shake of your favorite bbq seasoning
- 1 tube crescent rolls
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 egg
- Everything bagel seasoning for the top
How to Make These BBQ Chicken Bites
Mix the chicken, bbq sauce, and bbq seasoning in a bowl. Open the crescents and place them unrolled on a baking sheet sprinkle a tbsp of shredded cheddar on each and a tbsp of the chicken mixture. Roll the crescents up with the filling, not sealing the crescents, just making the rolls.
Scramble the egg to make an egg wash and brush over the top of the roll ups. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning or your favorite topping. Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes (Mine were done in about 13 minutes). Enjoy as soon as they are a bit cool but still warm!
