Easy Homemade Meatballs for Comforting Family Dinners

homemade meatballs recipe on top of penne pasta with sauce and cheese and parsley

When I was about 15, I attempted to make meatballs on my stovetop for the first time. Armed with ground beef and a vague notion of what meatballs should be, I rolled them into balls and hoped for the best. Needless to say, they completely fell apart and tasted rather uninspiring. It made me wonder—had I ever seen my mom make meatballs? Most of my early cooking lessons came from her, but meatballs weren’t part of our regular menu. It’s not her fault; we’re not Italian, and spaghetti with meat sauce was much simpler to prepare. And honestly it make it that much more exciting share my own homemade meatballs recipe that I figured out all on my own…eventually haha.

Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

Yet, absence does make the heart grow fonder. Despite my early mishap, I always felt a surge of excitement and joy whenever I had the chance to enjoy a well-made meatball. Maybe it’s just that I really love them, or perhaps it’s because they were a rare treat in our household.

Fast forward to today, and I find myself lovingly making meatballs for my own kids. It’s more work, but I can’t help but wonder if my enthusiasm stems from my childhood longing for these savory delights. This recipe, therefore, is a labor of love—a tribute to my favorite meatballs made for my favorite people.
