The Pumpkin Shaped Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of instant yeast
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of softened butter
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 3 and 1/4 cups of bread flour
- Olive oil for brushing
- Additional oil for greasing the strings
- 24 pieces of kitchen string
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl of a mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine warm water, sugar, yeast, salt, and olive oil. If using active dry yeast, wait until it starts foaming.
- Gradually add 3 cups of flour and mix the dough. Continue adding 3 and 1/4 cups more until the dough comes away from the sides of the bowl.
- Knead the dough for 2-4 minutes until it’s smooth, either by hand or with a mixer.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it, and allow it to rise until doubled in size (an hour or so).
- Punch down the dough and shape it into 12 equal portions. Set aside a small piece for the stems.
- Form each portion into a round roll and place them on a greased baking sheet.
- Take the small reserved piece and shape it into a rope. Cut it into 12 small sections, which will become the pumpkin stems.
- Cover the rolls and let them rest for 15 minutes.
- Cut 24 pieces of kitchen twine long enough to wrap around the pumpkin roll twice and place into a bowl with oil.
- Wrap each roll in a pice of string twice around and do this with two pieces of string creating 8 total loops around. This will make the rolls look like pumpkins.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (or 400°F for a slightly browner crust) and bake the rolls for about 22-25 minutes, until they’re golden brown.
- Optionally, brush the rolls with melted butter for a shiny finish.
- Top the rolls with the stems and enjoy!
