- 1 pound Italian sausage (or chicken sausage)
- ½ sleeve Ritz crackers (about 30 crackers)
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Optional toppings: everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, poppy seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the sausage mixture: In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the sausage and cook, breaking it apart until fully cooked.
- Crush the crackers: While the sausage is cooking, crush ½ a sleeve of Ritz crackers into fine crumbs. Once the sausage is done, stir in the crackers to create a stuffing-like mixture.
- Roll the puff pastry: Roll the sheet of puff pastry onto a flat surface and slice it down the middle. Place half of the sausage mixture down the center of each puff pastry strip.
- Form the bites: Roll up the puff pastry with the sausage filling, sealing the seam by pinching it closed. Place the seam side down on a baking sheet. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut each rolled pastry into 8 slices.
- Add egg wash: Beat 1 egg to create an egg wash. Brush it over the top of each puff pastry bite.
- Bake: Bake at 400°F for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Optional topping: For added flavor, sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, or poppy seeds before baking.
