My grandmother is still hosting at her condo at 87 — the ultimate entertainer of all entertainers. From a young age, I was completely captivated by her process — the food, the laughter, the details. She’s my OG “hostess with the mostest,” and I’ve been following her lead ever since.
Once I had my own place, I started inviting friends and family over for dinner — even hosting Easter on a $30 budget (and no one knew!). Over the years, I’ve collected my favorite trays, platters, and hosting tips from the queen herself — Martha Stewart — plus plenty of lessons learned the hard way. Like the time I moved everyone outside mid-party and instantly killed the vibe. Or when I made my own wedding appetizers in 90° weather. They were not the hit of the show BUT no one remembered (pro tip: if you serve enough vodka — we’re Russian — no one remembers the food).
I’ve hosted Thanksgiving two or three times a year for over a decade between friends-giving and blogging, baked thousands of cookies for massive holiday trays, planned chili cook-offs and summer barbecues, and somehow kept my sanity while doing it all as a wife and mom of three young boys. Through every success and every kitchen disaster, I’ve learned this: hosting should be joyful, not stressful.
My journey started on YouTube in 2020 after I left my job as a financial analyst to stay home with my kids. What began as budget cooking grew into something so much bigger — a love for helping families make meaningful meals together. Over the years, I’ve explored everything from grocery savings to clean eating, but what truly lights me up now is helping women celebrate life’s seasons through food and entertaining.
Today, Meals With Maria reaches over 330,000 home hosts across email and social media, coming to me for realistic, inspiring recipes and tips to make entertaining easy and memorable — from Thanksgiving feasts to cozy Christmas brunches to Super Bowl spreads.
My philosophy? Work smart, not hard. Make a few things ahead, serve what you love, and remember: people don’t come for perfection — they come for connection.
So grab your carving board (or your cookie tray) and join me in creating meals that make memories — one holiday, one gathering, and one delicious bite at a time.
